Subaru

History:

In late 2008, Subaru of America, Inc. launched its "Share the Love" campaign, a holiday sales event focused on giving back. For every vehicle sold or leased during the "Share the Love" event, Subaru donated $250 to the consumer's choice of five major charities, including Meals On Wheels Association.

For the fifth consecutive year, our Association was invited to participate in the "Share the Love" event between November 21, 2012 and January 3, 2013. Subaru's contributions strengthen every aspect of our work to support local Meals On Wheels programs in the fight to end senior hunger.

Impact of "Share the Love" in 2012

Thanks to Subaru of America, Meals On Wheels Association awarded $200,000 in "Share the Love" grants to local Meals On Wheels programs that involved a Subaru dealership in their efforts to serve seniors. Across the country, local programs are using these funds to strengthen meal delivery services and purchase the food and equipment needed to meet the growing demand for services.

Subaru's donation also supports the Meals On Wheels Leadership Academy, our professional development center for individuals working in Senior Nutrition Programs. As part of the Academy and with funds from "Share the Love," our Association created the Subaru Institute for Leadership Development in 2009 to provide local Meals On Wheels organizations with ongoing leadership and management training opportunities. Seventy-four senior nutrition professionals have earned a Certificate in Leadership through the Academy and another 257 are enrolled in the program.

“I never realized that there were so many seniors in our area who needed help with meals. Helping to get the meals delivered has really opened my eyes. I want to get my whole family involved, including my children. It’s important for them to see that there are people in need right where we live.”

“Your generosity allowed our program to provide larger portion sizes for the holiday meals for the 600 clients who depend on us as well as to purchase additional side dish items for our clients to enjoy. Our clients enjoyed a high quality, comforting holiday meal because of Subaru’s help.”
