Scholarship & Grant Opportunities

The Meals On Wheels Association of America wants to do everything we can to help our Members learn, collaborate and network. Every year, we strive to offer a number of funding opportunities to help out Members who might not otherwise be able to attend our Annual Conference.

How to Apply

Scholarship opportunities for the 2012 Conference will be announced in the spring of 2012.

Grant and Scholarship Opportunitites

Scholarship opportunities offered for the 2011 Conference included:

  • Mildred Kempton Scholarship
Mildred Kempton was a MOWAA Member from Oregon who worked tirelessly for rural meal delivery programs across the nation. One scholarship for the amount of $395 (the cost of Conference Registration) will be awarded to a MOWAA Member from a rural program.

  • Mamie Lee Scholarship
In 1981, Mamie Lee was the first African-American President of MOWAA (NAMP at the time). Mamie was a well-known activist who served the Pittsburgh, PA, community for over 20 years. Until the day she passed away, Mamie persisted in standing for human dignity and respect. Mamie Lee is remembered by MOWAA through this annual scholarship that celebrates diversity. One scholarship for the amount of $395 (the cost of Conference Registration) will be awarded.

  • Member-to-Member Scholarship
At the 2010 MOWAA Annual Conference in Atlanta, GA, a live auction and a silent auction were held to raise funds for scholarships. All of the money contributed by the 2010 Conference attendees will be used to help MOWAA Members attend the 2011 MOWAA Annual Conference in Chicago, IL.  This year, eleven scholarships, each for the amount of $600, will be awarded.

  • New: Bateman Senior Meals Grant
Thanks to the support of Bateman Senior Meals, we are able to award three scholarships of $1,000 each to MOWAA Members to attend the MOWAA Annual Conference.

Thanks to the generous support of Bank of America, we are able to offer a number of grants to MOWAA Members who wish to attend the Advanced Financial Management Institute or the Institute for Board Members and Executive Directors of Nonprofit Organizations, both of which will be offered during the 2011 MOWAA Annual Conference.
