Meals On Wheels Association of America Launches Meals for Moms Mother’s Day Campaign
Alexandria, VA., February 13, 2012—To raise awareness about senior hunger and to show appreciation for moms everywhere, Meals On Wheels Association of America (MOWAA) has launched its third annual Mother’s Day campaign at www.mealsformoms.org. The site enables visitors to create a free, customized Mother’s Day e-card for someone special by uploading a video, photo or personal message and to deliver the e-card on Mother’s Day, May 13. Visitors may also send a message of hope to a homebound senior and make a donation to help provide a nutritious meal to a senior in need. All funds raised will go to the Meals for Moms Fund to help Meals On Wheels programs provide meals to homebound seniors. This year, MOWAA’s goal is to send 100,000 Mother’s day messages.
MOWAA first launched its Mother’s Day campaign three years ago after research revealed that women are the group most likely to face the threat of senior hunger. Currently, 7.5 million seniors face the threat of hunger in the U.S. and that number is expected to rise. In past years, the Meals for Moms campaign has delivered thousands of Mother’s Day messages across the country, providing hope to homebound senior moms who might have otherwise been forgotten on Mother’s Day. On May 8, for the second year in a row, MOWAA will also host a special event on Capitol Hill to give lawmakers an opportunity to sign Mother’s Day cards for homebound seniors in their Districts and States. Last year, nearly 40 Members of Congress participated.
“One thing we all have in common is that every single one of us has had a mother,” said Enid Borden, President and CEO of MOWAA. “For many of us, these women who raised us made sure nutritious meals were put on the table night after night. Now they are alone in their homes, and many of them are hungry. We need to change that, which is why we started Meals for Moms. Mothers are depending on us.”
With just a few quick clicks, visitors to www.mealsformoms.org can show the world how much they love their moms and make a donation in her honor to help seniors in need.
