March For Meals is an annual campaign designed to raise awareness of senior hunger and to encourage action at the local level.  Senior Nutrition Programs across the United States promote March For Meals in their communities through public events, partnerships with local businesses, volunteer recruitment efforts and fundraising initiatives.  Learn more about these local efforts by viewing the 2011 March For Meals Highlights.

40th Anniversary of the Older Americans Act Senior Nutrition Programs

This year, March For Meals celebrates the 40th Anniversary of the inclusion of Senior Nutrition Programs in the Older March for MealsAmericans Act (OAA).  In March of 1972, President Nixon signed into law a new Title of the Act that laid the groundwork for more than 5,000 Senior Nutrition Programs.  The OAA is the primary piece of federal legislation that authorizes and supports vital nutrition services, both congregate and Meals On Wheels, to Americans age 60 and older.

Mayors For Meals Day

Mayors For Meals is a component of March For Meals that utilizes the involvement of local mayors and elected officials to raise awareness about senior hunger.  These individuals deliver meals on one day in March to show their support of their local Senior Nutrition Program.  In 2012, Mayors For Meals Day will be held Wednesday, March 21.  View a complete list of the mayors and local officials who will participate in the 2012 Mayors For Meals Day here.
