History:
Starting in 2009, Bridgestone Retail Operations (BSRO), with over 2,000 Firestone Complete Auto Care, Tires Plus, ExpertTire and Wheel Works retail locations, teamed up with MOWAA to “Drive Away Hunger” by heightening awareness, raising funds and encouraging individuals to volunteer for their local Meals On Wheels program.
Partnership activities include:
- In-store, online and tire/service special offer fundraising campaigns
- “PartnersPlus” - automobile servicing discount plans for MOWAA Member programs, employees and volunteers
- The creation of a senior hunger awareness generating video that has over 500,000 hits on YouTube
- Sponsor of MOWAA’s 2010 American Volunteer Contest and awarding tire sets to the winners
- The creation of a MOWAA web presence on the BSRO website
- Sponsor of MOWAA’s 2010 American Volunteer Contest and awarding tire sets to the winners
At BSRO’s annual sales meeting in January 2011, a check for $471,000 was presented to MOWAA. This money was generated through quarterly tire and service specials, as well as in-store and online fundraising.
Impact:
With national fundraising and awareness efforts and encouraging community involvement through its 2,000 retail locations nationwide, BSRO is a hallmark example of what national organizations with large footprints around the country can accomplish. BSRO has become an integral part of MOWAA’s movement to end senior hunger in America by 2020.
BSRO’s PartnersPlus discount program does more than just provide MOWAA Member programs and their volunteers a generous discount for vehicle maintenance – every dollar these Meals On Wheels programs save helps them to sustain and expand services to hungry seniors in their communities. BSRO is helping us to ensure meals and volunteers arrive at seniors’ homes safely.
