Mayors For Meals 2010
Mayors For Meals 2010 was, once again, a huge success. This year hundreds of mayors and elected officials from across the country delivered meals with their local Meals On Wheels program to homebound seniors in their community, as part of MOWAA’s annual March For Meals campaign. We want to thank all of the mayors and elected officials for participating and for joining us in our national movement to end senior hunger in America by 2020. We sincerely hope that you will deliver meals with us next year on Wednesday, March 23, 2011. Mark your calendars!

One Mayor's Story: Q&A with Las Vegas Mayor Oscar Goodman

Mayor Oscar Goodman delivered meals with Catholic Charities Las Vegas Meals On Wheels and was kind enough to answer a few questions about the service Meals On Wheels provides.
Q: Why do you deliver meals on Mayors For Meals Day every year?
A: “Meals on Wheels helps in so many ways. Just seeing the expression on the senior’s face when they receive the meal means so much to me.”
Q: Why is Meals On Wheels such an vital service for your city’s seniors?
A: “There is no telling what would happen to many of these seniors if they did not have the Meals On Wheels program. So many of our seniors are alone and do not have the support groups they need.
The good folks from Catholic Charities not only delivers the meals, but they also check the refrigerator t make sure the senior has eaten the meals form the previous week. Also, if a senior is sick or not eating, the driver reports this back to the main office so the senior can be help medically or be counseled.”
Q: Why is taking care of seniors so important?
A: “Providing the meals is payback, in effect, to our seniors who have supported our country and now they need help from us. Contributions from Harrah’s and our community is needed more than ever to help seniors who are already receiving meals and those on the waiting list who desperately need help.”
