The National Campaign for Community Impact
The National Campaign for Community Impact provides
financial and other resources to local, independently operating Meals On Wheels
programs that feed hungry seniors in their communities. The National Campaign
enables MOWAA to provide grants directly to local programs to aid them in
meeting the need for home delivered and congregate meals in their communities.
Community Impact Case Study:
Because of a generous donation of $750,000 from the Walmart
Foundation, MOWAA was able to provide up to $10,000 to 78 local Meals On Wheels
programs in 40 states. This funding
strengthened our Meals On Wheels programs so that they could serve 100,000
additional meals to homebound seniors across the country, eliminate hundreds of
elderly clients from waiting lists, and fix delivery vehicles in desperate need
of repair. Grant opportunities like
these help our Meals On Wheels programs expand their services and their reach.
Funding from MOWAA and the Walmart Foundation enabled our Meals On
Wheels program, Project Open Hand, to provide 1,079 home-delivered meals and
nutrition education to seniors in the metropolitan Atlanta area.
Of the seniors receiving meals from Open Hand, 70% have diabetes and
need our healthy meals and nutrition education to help manage their health and
prevent disabling conditions. We are
most grateful for this funding, which helped Open Hand continue these services
during these difficult times.
