In Focus: The National Response to Senior Hunger
The National Response to Senior Hunger is a national initiative aiming to solve the complexities of Senior Hunger. The first step was the convening of a Steering Committee to assist us in formulating and implementing our plans...
These local programs participate by creating and implementing unique local March For Meals activities and fundraising efforts. MOWAA provides media kits with logoed but customizable materials for programs to use, so that their local efforts are clearly community-based while at the same time identified with a larger, national campaign. All of the monies raised locally remain with the programs. In 2006, MOWAA introduced a new component of the March For Meals campaign called Mayors For Meals. On a designated day in March, mayors across the country deliver meals with their local Senior Nutrition Program to seniors in their community. Mayors For Meals garners media attention both locally and nationally and helps raise public awareness about senior hunger.
As part of the March For Meals campaign, local programs compete with one another for March For Meals grants from MOWAA. These grants have been made possible through the financial underwriting of The Harrah’s Foundation. Harrah’s has been the prime national sponsor of the March For Meals campaign since the creation of the initiative in 2002. Your contribution will assist MOWAA in providing larger grants and grants to more local Senior Nutrition Programs across the country.
The need is great, and promises to grow even greater. Senior hunger is a disease. We have the cure today. You can help us deliver it. Please be generous. We all must work together “so no senior goes hungry.”®
